Ziziphus mucronata, or as it is more frequently known, the wag-'n-bietjie tree represents life as we know it. The young twigs are zigzag, indicating that life is not always straightforward. Two thorns at the nodes are also significant; one facing backward represents where we come from and one facing forward, represents where we are going. Positive and negative forms united in growth. Woven together they make a formidable kraal, a protection from enemies but are they outside or inside? You will have to wait-a-bit if you want to free yourself from them.
I see you now
flickering on the stone in my hand.
I break you, and make you, a tool for my will,
but you flicker still.
